Edcational Value of the Handfield technologies:
Advantages:
~ a mini computer that can be portable and convenient to use if you have a good command of it
~ facilitate learning cos it has no time and place limitation, users can access to internet and check emails anytime once there are wireless network or bluetooth.
~ space-saving cos it's very small.
~ multi-function e.g. vedio and sound recording, photo taking, calculating and plainning management etc...
limitations
~ space-saving but the screen is too small that it reduce attraction of using it as a computer even though it can connect to any PC to project on a bigger screen, but still it limit the information diplay on the screen. Take me as an example, I wouldn't choose a handfield tenhnology if I have a choice.
~ Too expensive for both schools and students and it need higher technical skills to master if compared to a destop computer.
~ Easy to get lost or being stolen coz it's really small. Once the users are careless and their handfield technologies are picked up by a nad guys, their information may be dislocsed unsafely.
~ Students may not be mature enough to master such highly advanced stuff. As I said before, handfield technologies needs higer technical skills to master, so I wonder how effective it it to introduce the use of it to the primary kids. I wonder is it a must or a need to equip students with such advanced skills at their early stage? Is that all technologies related stuff is good for students leaning. Take me as an example, I am a mature learner for the handfield technologies, but the main problem I encounter is that I haven't got enough time to learn deeply or have my tasks done perfectly. I think it's the common problem that most teachers come across now in Hong Kong, right?
